Had a blast today! The Joe Himali @bestaddress Kalorama walking tour was spectacular. You guys know that I’m an architecture nut. I will travel just to look at architecture and interior design (oh and visit museums and eat). But the one city that I know very little about its architecture (except for the monuments) is my own hometown. It’s so crazy. Today I learned some of DC’s not-so-great architects of the early 20th Century regularly mixed architectural styles. The blond-like brick is indicative of the Beaux-Arts architecture. It wasn’t strictly adhered to and would definitely make Parisians roll their eyes. There are other buildings in that area of the Georgian, Mission Revival, Spanish Colonial Revival and French Renaissance styles. For the natives, the area was home to one Mr. Woodward and one Mr. Lothrop.

It was interesting to learn that the lions on the Taft Bridge are not the originals (bummer) and that many of the homes we passed in Kalorama are now condos (double bummer). The old mailboxes took me there (not shown for privacy reasons). I’m such a geek about that kind of thing.
